KING DEVANAMPIYATHISSA


         

     He was second son of Mutasiva.  Devanampiyatissa struck up a Friendship With Emperor Asoka one of the greatest sons of India. As a  result We Were handed the most Valuable gift given to a nation. It was at his request that Ashoka sent his  son Arahant Mahinda with a retinue of 5 to impart, the Dhamma. Because Mutasiva was old Mahinda knew that he would not see her again. By this time Mutasiva was dead and his second son Devanampiyatissa had been crowned king of Lanka.
            
Devanampiyatissa was tested for his intelligence. He was found to be highly intelligent and then Arahant Mahinda preached the Dhamma. The other important event during this time was the coming of theri sangamitta who brought with her the sacred bo-sapling which is the most ancient recorded tree in world history. she also brought the Bhikkuni sasana to Sri lanka at the invitation of princess Anula, sister - in - law of King Devanampiyatissa. She also brought with her artesans who enriched the islands culture of our island. of the king,s wife nothing good can be said. She tried to poison the king's brother but her own son was killed. The king's brother fled to Ruhuna and began the kingdom of Magama.

King Devanam piyatissa built Thuparama. Isurumuniya, Sigiriya, Patamaka Cetiya. Mahapali Almas hall; Nagadipa and Dambakola Patuna Viharaya. He ruled for 41 years and he was the first Buddhist King of Sri lanka. Mahinda and Sanghamittha survived Tissa. He is our national hero.

🙏   Nelligala Buddhist Temple 🙏 Last Sunday I went to Nelligala International Buddhist Center with my friends. It is a Buddhist temple situated in Muruthalawa village in the Kandy District. Nelligala International Buddhist Center is a religious place of peace and tranquility. It is a popular site visited by both Buddhists and people from various other religions.  Situated on top of mountain, it is a popular place for sightseeing visitors and tourists due to its sheer beauty and amazing view of the surrounding landscape.
